In An Effort to Reduce Bicycle and Pedestrian Injuries and Deaths, San Francisco Municipal Transit Authority Makes Safe Driving Video For City Truckers Part of Training

Some say “too little, too late” however I think when it comes to commuter and pedestrian safety, every little bit helps. That’s why I’m happy to announce that the SFMTA has just produced the City’s first training video to help assist its truck and bus drivers with navigating the hectic urban environment that is Downtown San Francisco. SFMTA will be requiring all truck and bus drivers employed or contracted by the City to watch the video, with the requirements extending out to companies which operate under SFMTA’s private shuttle programs as well. The video outlines the bike and pedestrian infrastructures…

Injured in a Bicycle Accident? Then You Need a Bicycle Accident Lawyer

Share the road. Ah, if only that were a mantra that every driver in the Bay area told themselves each morning before they started their car motors and headed off to work. San Francisco and its surrounding areas are well-equipped for bicycle travel. Many of the residents in these areas enjoy riding their bikes from home to school, work, or anywhere they want to go. However, riding a bicycle does come with its risks, and one of the biggest risks is facing drivers who are negligent to the fact that they need to share the road. Also, it is very…

Motorcyclist Killed in I-80 Crash Was Victim of Hit and Run

The 45-year-old Vallejo motorcyclist killed earlier this month on Highway 80 near Hercules has been identified by the Contra Costa County Coroner’s office as Paris Williams. Williams, who was involved in a motorcycle-car collision just east of Willow Avenue, died immediately following his impact with the back of a gray BMW X3. Was Paris killed when he struck the rear of the BMW SUV? The evidence so far says no. Paris actually survived the crash with the BMW. Although we still don’t know exactly what caused Williams’ initial impact with the BMW X3, the police believe that Williams had initially…

Tips for Cyclists: How To Avoid Bicycle Accidents

If you’ve read my posts about bicycle accidents before, checked out my blog, or even browsed my website, you know that one of my greatest goals is to reduce injuries and fatalities due to bicycle collisions, through making persons and companies and public entities accountable when they needlessly endanger bicycle riders, and also through advising about safer bicycle riding. The statistics are shocking: 100 or more people per year die from bicycle collisions in California alone. This number is deplorable and should be drastically reduced. How can we as bicycle riders and bicycle lawyers work toward reducing bicycle deaths, and…

Vision Zero: Seeing Some Success in San Francisco

If you’ve been reading my posts, you know I’m a big advocate for Vision Zero, a campaign that San Francisco has been recently adopted to cut pedestrian death and injury in half by 2021. Vision Zero has come on the heels of a dangerous 2014 for pedestrians, with nearly 100 pedestrians killed or seriously injured in the city that year, with driver fault being the cause of over 60% of those injuries.   They say it’s darkest before the dawn, and Vision Zero may just be the dawn San Francisco pedestrians are looking for.   The first stage of the…
