Modesto Pedestrian Attorney Reports: Teenage Girl Charged With Murder In Modesto Crash Which Led to Two Pedestrian Deaths

-Posted On December 14, 2018 In Uncategorized-

Prosecutors have filed murder charges against a 17 year old girl after her involvement in a high speed crash that killed a woman and her daughter in Modesto a year ago.

The girl, Britaney Elvira Gomez, suspected of driving under the influence of marijuana, faces two counts of murder in connection with the deaths of Megan Cooley, 21, and Sherri Cooley, 54.

Gomez remains in custody, after courts determined she could be prosecuted as an adult.

Gomez initially pleaded not guilty to the charges, and is due back in court later this year.

“No one is winning here,” said Gomez’s attorney in a phone interview Monday. “It’s an absolute tragic situation, particularly for the victims, their families and all parties involved.”

Gomez does not have any prior DUI convictions or other criminal convictions.

While there clearly are no winners, the family of the two pedestrians who were killed in this horrific crash should immediately consult with a pedestrian accident attorney. Hopefully, the offending driver has insurance, and hopefully the two pedestrians also carried underinsured coverage as well. While money can never make whole for the loss of two loved ones, at least the money awarded will help to defray funeral costs and to support surviving family members.
